Bij de paniek die volgens getuigen daarbij uitbrak wilde iedereen massaal van het ijs. Het ijs langs de randen kon de grote druk van de grote hoeveelheid mensen tegelijk niet aan en bezweek waarna meerdere personen natte voeten\/benen kregen.
